There is palpable fear among traders in the popular Balogun market on Lagos Island that they may lose their means of livelihood as fire guts a five-story shopping complex in the market.
Many traders scramble to rescue their goods as the fire blazed through the shopping centre, threatening surrounding shops.
According to sources, firefighters and other emergency operatives are already on the scene at the time of filing this report.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage had yet to be ascertained as of press time.
The spokespersons for LASEMA and the fire service, Nosa Okubor, and Adeleke Ashimi, respectively, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
Update: Another fire has reportedly broken out a few blocks away from the scene of the first one.
